Geography

Departmental History

The Department of Geography was introduced by our founder Principal Durga Borah and since its inception in 1989 it has successfully completed 32 years of Higher Secondary and Undergraduate Course in Geography. It is considered to be one of the oldest departments in Swahid Peoli Phukan College to be established around Namti area of Sivasagar district of Assam. The Department apart from Higher Secondary and Bachelor courses (both Honours and

Pass course) also provides opportunities to the students to mould their talents in different other activities for their all round development. The Department has a “Geographical Society” having a collection of more than 300 books, references, journals and periodicals which is provided to the students as per their needs and requirements. Besides teaching, the department organizes seminars, group discussion, and field study among the students to boost their talents. Our department has also published a wall magazine entitled “GEOLINO” which helped the students to express their views independently through writing in it. We serve four private junior colleges, Nilakshi Memorial Academy, Eminence Academy, Holy Name and Sivasagar junior college by providing them the opportunities to carry out practical work and examinations and other academic curriculum such as field surveys to expand their knowledge in the field of study. The faculty members of the Department are always ready to render help to the students in all possible way whenever required. The students of this Department brings laurels to the college by securing higher percentages in the University and most of them are engaged in further studies in different universities as students and researchers.
